I don't think any of you know this, but I was in a 4 car accident on Thursday.  I'm fine (after a weekend of soreness), but my car is not.  I took it in for an estimate this morning, and they say it would take $7000 to fix it.  An obviously, my '93 Honda Del Sol isnt worth $7000.  So I am now waiting to hear back from the chick who hit me's insurance to see how much I'll have to spend on a new (or new to me) car.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I would like something cute and fun, but Brian thinks we should get something that can tow our motorcycle(s).  Any ideas?

Nicki,
If that the case then her insurance companies adjustor should total your car.... and you should be looking to see what the actual blue book value of your car is. As far as the car goes that is all you'll get out of it (this is how kenny and I got screwed over when the neighbors underage drunk son came into my drive way and totalled 3 cars and hit my camper.) However we were not in the car so no medical and they wouldn't even compensate for pain and suffer or total inconvience and lack of transportation over a holiday weekend becaus it was too late to get rental cars.  With you being in the car the amount should  go up.

Glad you are alright! as for car suggestions...Jeep or small SUV are good for towing and of course fun..camping , hiking...roughing it , SNOW and of course off roading and 4wheelin!!!

Oh no........I'm so sorry to hear about your accident but VERY GLAD you are all right.  I was just thinking 'bout you this morning (check your myspace).  Wow, 4 cars, other than the vehicles was everyone OK?  Do you need anything?

The first thing I suggest is getting YOUR insurance agent involved to see if they can do some negotiating on your behalf.  And get a rental car for as long as you can --- then try switching between several different vehicles to see if any of them are what you are interested in.  Test drive LOTS of things.  Then pick something YOU like....yes, you can try to compromise a bit with Brian but afterall---you'll be the one doing the daily work grind/drive in the car (unless you take HIS car).

Also, I sorta see you as a "pick up" girl -- and not a little S10 or baby truck either!

No real suggestions - just wanted to voice my sympathies!   Cry  Speaking from my vast experience (as long time readers of the mogro road diary know) - being hit in any way shape or form sucks.  At least you are okay - life will go on.  But we will remember the honda del sol forever (lighter raised here)  Grin

There are lots of options between "cute" and "hual". Now, why would you need to haul the bikes? Can't you DRIVE them to your destination? Just asking.

From my personal experience: Stick with Honda, Toyota, Nissan. I had a Civic that when I sold it to my MECHANIC it had 300,000 miles on it and was still purring like a Pavlovian cat. I've had a Camry (awesome), a 4X4 Toyota Tacoma (fun, fun, fun and strong as a tank!), 2 Nissan Sentras (for the budget minded...VERY reliable) and my current fav; Toyota Highlander Hybrid...can't stress enough how I adore this vehicle! Go for the 6cyl Limited Hybrid, the rear spoiler and ground effects really make it look different than the rest of the Highlanders. Ask Scott how fast it is...all I remember is him leaning back and saying "whoh! (this coming from a guy with a super charger!)

Ok, enough rambling...bottom line....Brian has a car of his own...get what YOU want.  Wink

I miss you...I wanna do Lockerbie with you!!

Thanks for the support, guys!  I really am doing fine.  I didn't even get a scratch.  A couple bruises, yes, but big deal.  I'm completely healthy.

Di, I think its HILARIOUS that you say that about me being a "pick up" girl.  Brian says that all the time.  I guess you guys see a side of me that I DEFINITELY don't see!   Tongue

Brad, we would prefer to haul the bikes to some locations.  After Scott and Brian rode their bikes to North Carolina, they've pretty much had it for long rides on sport bikes.  And since we want to go to the Triumph raid at Gettysburg in September and we haven't bought a cruiser or touring bike recently, Brian is pushing for the SUV with hauling capabilities.
I totally agree with you on Japanese cars.  My family is pretty much completely Honda.  I had a del sol, my parents have an Accord, my brother has a CRV and Brian drives an Acura.   Smiley

Don't worry, I'm def going to choose the car I like best.  I've got two narrowed down, and I'm going to test drive them tomorrow night.  I thought about sharing my options with you guys, but I think I'll suprise you instead!   Cheesy  Hee hee!

Not only the run awesome without tons of problems, but boy do they really keep their resale value! We looked at used ones for my daughter and  were stunned to see how much resale value they kept..Thought about buying a new one for us when were looking before Granfather Mountain..but alas...Kenny's dad worked for Chrysler all his life so we were able to get a huge discount....but next time Grin

So a lot has happened since I posted last on this topic.  Found out that they can't find the chick who hit me (aka, she's uninsured).  So I got my insurance company involved, and two days later I got a check for more than twice the blue book value of my car (they gave me a little more than half of what it would cost to fix the thing).  So!  That was def good news.  I made out well from my insurance, even after the $500 uninsured motorist deductable.

After I got the check on Friday, I went car shopping for 10 hours on Saturday.  And I finally found the car I was looking for.  I pretty much didnt take any of your advice on it, though...
Its a new to me car, it isn't Japanese, it does not have towing capabilities, but its little, and cute, and perfect.

Its a 2004 gold and black MINI COOPER!  I love it.  Its so cute.

So thank you for all your advice.  Sorry I didn't take any of it, but I still think I made a good decision...

Oh, wow, Mini Coopers rock!  I actually saw a classic one around town a week or so ago.  Very shagadelic.

As for missing people... I'm really gonna aim for Yule at Fiddler's Hearth.  That'll be a bit over 6 months with no MoGro  Cry

A Mini-Cooper? Those are so cute!! And I hear they are a LOT of fun to drive.

My kids love Minis... ever since we rode Italian Job Stunt Track at Kings Island last summer. They tell me every time they see one.  Cheesy

That movie is the main reason I bought this car!  I was test driving it around this roundabout near the dealer, and I totally felt like Charlize Theron!  I knew I had to have 'er!
